Running task manager to see what's happening but other than the 94%RAM and 4% CPU is see nothing that points to the issue.I had this problem last week as well and Eventually, I just click the "Stop" button to end the scan and Avast will stop the scan and report that "no threats were detected, scan aborted by user" (or similar language). I am about to order a Belkin laptop cooling pad as these seem to have the best reviews. But it consumes a large amount of memory about 70% and the list would load very slowly.... But I promise to pay you if this succeeds in preventing my computer from freezing and crashing during a virus scan. As always, though, the full scan still takes a long time; perhaps five hours, although it seems to vary somewhat.

i wasn't using much RAM or processor space, i was trying to load a web page. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. so my computer seems to be ok now... When I bring up the task manager, the AvastSvc.exe process is sucking up 99% of the CPU.
